What's a good computer desk for home?
Do you have a home computer desk/workstation that you like a lot? Where did you buy it? Does it have a name or number? I'm going to buy a new one this weekend and I was planning to look at Office Depot, Staples, Fryes, Best Buy. I don't want to spend a lot, but I will spend enough to get something durable and efficient. Where else should I check?
Check out untraditional places like FREECYCLE.ORG in your community.. .I just got rid of 2 computer type desks... They were FREE... We have a SAUDER desk that was left at our house.. While it functions all right the support hinges are plastic and NOT very sturdy... The drawers are flimsy and the bottoms are cardboard! So, they don't hold much if anything at all....
My friend has a cool armoire turned computer workstation... It's all natural wood so it's very sturdy... On the inside of the doors she has installed a corkboard and dry erase msg. board and her husband installed a couple shelved.. There's a could drawers underneath and her fax machine, copier ect... are stored in shelves above the monitor.. Since they have a small house and the room also doubles at the entrance way or "formal sittingroom" the doors close and no one has to see the computer...
My sister in law got an desk from Value City and it was built in the room... So, when she moved it was a complete disaster to move.. .It had to be completely disassembled... It never went back up quite the same... So, be careful what you buy and the dimensions of the room it's going into!
Look at thrift/antique and tag sales or estate sales... You can usually find something good for a resonable price.... I know the desk that we have cost around $800 and it's ok.. but, when we move it's staying!
